Guidelines for management of iron and steel slag products

Guidelines related to management of iron and steel slag products, and status of investigation and certification of iron and steel slag product manufacturers and sellers by third party agencies

Nippon Slag Association has formulated the "Guidelines related to management of iron and steel slag products" (hereafter referred to as “the Guidelines”). The Guidelines contain issues that must be managed by sellers of iron and steel slag products when such products are sold so that the consumers can make correct use of the products and achieve the benefits that the unique characteristics of these products provide.

Companies that manufacture and sell iron and steel slag products each should create their own product management manuals in accordance with the Guidelines. The Guidelines were created in July 2005, and have since been revised and strengthened multiple times. When the Guidelines were revised in October 2007, the Japan Iron and Steel Federation created the "Management Guidelines for Iron and Steel Slag for which Processing is Entrusted to an Industrial Waste Processing Agent" for use with iron and steel slag which is not processed by a company itself and which is processed as waste. In order to improve the reliability of iron and steel slag products, Nippon Slag Association has introduced an investigation and certification system based on investigations by third party agencies for the member companies that manufacture and sell iron and steel slag products. A list is provided showing the resulting status of the investigation and certification by third party agencies proving that companies are carrying out management of iron and steel slag products in accordance with the Guidelines. We hope that consumers will understand these efforts, and will feel confident in the use of iron and steel slag products in a variety of applications in society.
